Democratic Congressional candidate Ken Aden (D-Russellville) Monday criticized Congressman Steve Womack for siding with GOP Congressional leadership in putting wedge issues like abortion ahead of job creation and economic revitalization.

Citing last Thursday's vote on the Parental Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 2541, Roll Call 299), which failed to pass the House in spite of support from Womack and GOP leadership, Aden said that Womack and the House GOP leadership seem to be focusing on everything except the issues that matter the most to their constituents.

"America's unemployment rate is still more than eight percent, jobs are still being outsourced to China and India, and Womack and his colleagues are focused on wedge issues instead of ending tax policy that encourages outsourcing and gives tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas."

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that sex-selective abortions are not a problem in this country, as nearly all abortions performed in the United States are performed before gender can be detected by ultrasound, noted Janey Peugh, spokesperson for the Aden campaign.

"At a time when the gap between the wealthiest Americans and the middle class is the largest in history, Republicans vote against giving tax breaks to the middle class while voting for more tax breaks for millionaires. Womack and the GOP leadership have abandoned the economy in favor of focusing on social issues," Aden continued.

"Even one of Mitt Romney's key supporters in Congress was critical of this vote, noting that we need to stay focused on jobs and the economy. However, Womack and his allies in GOP leadership hope that Arkansas voters live in a fantasy land where focusing on wedge issues is more important than having a good job and feeding your family," Peugh said.
